Linux, the struggles are real!

Why I won’t use Oracle Linux

Unlike a lot of people, I don’t hate Oracle. Hell, one of my exes had a management position there. So my reasoning won’t be limited to a “F*ck Oracle” like you can read here. Nah, I’ll do much better, I am going to give you a “tl;dr” explanation. So sit tight, you are not going anywhere for a while Photobucket

In order to get a a copy you have to register first. When I want something, I want it NOA! I don’t want to fill in a tedious registration form. Especially if the alternatives, like CentOS, offer their distribution without having to register first Photobucket

It’s not really free, registration requires way too much personal information for a free product. We all know that such data is worth a quite a lot. Btw, I love how Oracle’s registration forms states that they prefer you use your bussines e-mail for registration, but of course you guys at Oracle do Photobucket

This might be me wearing a tinfoil hat, but since data mining is where the money is. I wonder what else Oracle might be collecting about me, when I use their distribution. Like what packages I’m downlaoding etc. etc. Of course this data mining will be hidden in the user agreement behind a line like “in order to give you the best consumer experience and/or best customer support”.

Oracle insults their future users intelligence, they market their product as unbreakable. Puh-lease Photobucket If you know about Oracle Linux, chances are you are not new to Linux. Since they compair theirselves to CentOS here, it is safe to assume Oracle isn’t aiming at newbies at all. I think that any experienced CentOS user can break Oracle’s “Unbreakable” Linux within minutes. Hell, even I could do that, just give me 5 minutes in xorg.conf Photobucket

Last but not least, Oracle had a US$ 37.1 billion revenue so far this year. And yet, it wasn’t enough Photobucket to hire a decent graphic designer who could do so much better then this:

Oh, for heaven’s sake!!!!  A US$ 37.1 billion revenue and you guys come up with thisPhotobucket
